I’ve never been as disillusioned by Leyton Orient or football in general as I currently am this evening. Dean Cox embodied everything I love about the Orient and lower league football in general, he is the link between the players and the fans, which is exactly what football should be about in the lower leagues. He was a rare mix of quality and loyalty which is hard to come by in modern football, on and off the pitch the man was consistently brilliant. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen Dads tweeting Dean asking if he’ll take time out to have a photo with their son before the game, a request that he’s only too happy to oblige with.

The decision to sell Cox this summer would have proven unpopular and would have ultimately been a poor footballing decision by our owners, however it would have been somewhat understandable given his contract is up next year. The decision to cancel Cox’s contract a day after the transfer window ends, leaving him unable to play again for another club till January, is not only a complete aberration, it also reeks of spite and pettiness from the boardroom. I can only imagine how Cox is feeling right now having worked so hard this summer to get fit again for the upcoming season, only to be told he’s no longer wanted and left in the footballing wilderness for four months.  I’m ashamed to be an Orient supporter this evening, this is a man who deserved so much more from the club, especially after turning down several offers from clubs in higher divisions and he’s just been thrown out with no more than a statement, a couple of sentences long for his troubles. I have no doubt that once January comes around every Football League club from Accrington to Walsall will be interested in Cox and our loss will be their immense gain.

Thanks for the memories Deano.deano

Leyton Orient is supposed to be a community club, but that is now under threat due to an arbitrary Italian with more money than sense. If you’re feeling as disenchanted with Orient as I am, I urge you to join the Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust (link below) in order to form a collective voice against our tyrant owner.
